Moncho factions condemn delay in verdict

Anti-razakar youth platform Gonojagoron Moncho has condemned the postponement of the verdict that was set to be announced yesterday in the case against Jamaat-e-Islami chief Motiur Rahman Nizami alleging that it was part of a conspiracy.

Three factions of the platform demonstrated at the Shahbagh intersection, soon after the postponement was announced at noon.

Imran H Sarker, leader of the platform, said: “We have noticed from the very beginning that a conspiracy is being hatched over the war crimes trials and its verdicts. We sensed yesterday [Monday] that such a thing [postponement] may happen as the Jamaat was silent over the verdict date."

Sculptor Ferdousi Priyabhashini, a Birangona of the 1971 Liberation War, said conspiracy is going on. The verdict of Delawar Hossain Sayedee [pending at the Appellate Division] is also being delayed for more than a year. ”

Chhatra Union General Secretary Lucky Akhter, also a key Moncho organiser, termed the postponement “a government conspiracy.”

On the other hand, leader of a breakaway faction Kamal Pasha Chowdhury at a rally in Shahbagh blamed the defence of Nizami for continuously delaying the trial procedure citing lame excuses. He announced a protest rally for Friday at Shahbagh demanding quick trial of all war criminals.

Earlier in the morning, the two factions observed sit-in programmes at the Shahbagh Projonmo Chattar.

Another faction of Gonojagoron Moncho, under the banner of Shahbagh Movement, the leaders of which had sided with Imran since the beginning of the movement, also staged a demonstration at a separate spot of the Shahbagh intersection.

Several student organisations including Bangladesh Chhatra Moitri, Jasad Chhatra League, Bangladesh Chhatra Andolon, Basad Chhatra League, and Blogger and Online Activists (BOAN) took part in the demonstration under the banner.
