7 injured as BCL factions lock horns at Eden College

At least seven activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Eden Girl's College unit have been injured in a factional clash following a previous scuffle over watching the World Cup on television.

According to general students, the clash erupted for the second time between the supporters of the college unit president and general secretary around 11am on Monday following a previous scuffle that took place on Saturday night.

During the clash, the activists of two groups clashed each other with iron and wooden sticks, leaving seven students including the college unit General Secretary Israt Jahan Orchi.

The other injured are Taslima, Beuty, Bristy, Shurma, Eity and Armi.

All the injured BCL members have been rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for primary treatment, after the clash.

While contacted, Eden College principle professor Hosne-Ara told the Dhaka Tribune that it was a trivial matter.

She said: “Two groups of students engaged in an altercation over watching the World Cup matches. It was not a big problem. We have calmed the situation down.”

Earlier on Saturday night, the students engaged in a scuffle at Ayesha Siddika hall at around 11.00 pm, over watching the World Cup match. Two students were injured in the incident.
