Jamaat-e-Islami unit in Sylhet has called a half-day hartal in the district for Monday protesting the arrest of its acting secretary general.
Hafiz Miftah Uddin, publicity secretary of metropolitan Jamaat unit, confirmed the Dhaka Tribune about the shutdown programme.
He said the hartal would be observed from 6am to 12pm on Monday.
Earlier in the day, Jamaat-e-Islami acting secretary general of Sylhet City unit, Mohammad Fakhrul Islam was arrested from the city’s Uposohor area.
Fakhrul is the younger brother of Jamaat’s acting secretary general Dr Shofiqur Rahman.
Shahporan police station Officer-in-Charge, Shakawat Hossain said there were six arrest warrants against Mohammad Fakhrul Islam. He will be produced before court on Sunday.
