Imran: We will not go back home until demands are met

Gonojagoron Moncho spokesperson Imran H Sarkar yesterday said the platform wasn’t initiated to serve anyone’s purpose, so they would not go back home as per anybody’s wish.

“The platform was formed to realise the six-point demand and we will go back home only after the demands are met,” he said at a rally organised by the Moncho at Shahbagh Projonmo Chattar to protest at “delay” in implementation of the verdicts handed down to the war criminals and press home its six-point demand.

Speakers at the programme called upon its activists to resist all kinds of conspiracies against the movement and get united.

While another faction of Gonojagoron Moncho led by Kamal Pasha Chowdhury brought out a procession demanding punishment for the attackers on Gonojagoron activist Shishir and withdrawal of false case against the activists.

At the rally, Imran blamed few groups for making the Moncho controversial. He said, “The people on 8 February 2013 took oath to realise the six demands. But a few of them are now saying that there is no need of the activity of Gonojagoron Moncho.”

“Actually, they need Hefazat-e-Islam and Jamaat-e-Islami instead.”

Imran said, “The platform wasn’t initiated to install someone to power or oust someone from power. We will go back home only after our six demands are met. Nothing can stop us.”

“They said they will fulfil our demands in the parliament. Now they have forgotten everything. They are taking money from Jamaat’s financial organisation in the name of different programmes. They are releasing Shibir leaders who were sentenced to death,” he said without naming anyone.

“Trial of Sayedee has not been finished yet. They took more than two months to appoint a chairman to the tribunal. They are trying to waste time.”

Among others, Janardan Datta Nantu, president of Chhatra Front, Probir Saha, president of Chhatra Federation, Faisal Faruq, president of Biplobi Chhatra Maitree, Shahjahan Ali Saju, secretary of Chhatra League (JSD), GM Hilali, organising secretary of Chhatra Union, and Lucky Akter, one of the leading organisers of the Moncho, addressed the programme.

Kamal Pasha said they urged the law enforcers to take immediate action against the attackers on Shishir and withdraw the false cases filed against the Moncho activists. He also urged the government to take immediate steps to fulfil the six-point demand.

However, the faction did not stage any rally. Kamal Pasha told the Dhaka Tribune that the law enforcers did not give them permission for holding the rally.

Among others, Jagrata Janata convener Habibullah Mesbha, FM Shahin, Mohammad Babul and Mehadi Hasan were present.
