Gonojagoron Moncho, a youth platform which was formed protesting war crimes convict Abdul Quader Mollah’s life term imprisonment, may form a political party in the future.
Imran H Sarkar, spokesperson of the Moncho, made the disclosure while talking to the private television network Channel I on Sunday.
Imran said the movement of Gonojagoron Moncho is going ahead in three ways simultaneously. It is a political movement, a social movement and a cultural movement.
“Time will say in which way the movement will proceed, where the movement will end in the future.
We cannot rule it out whether the Gonojagoron Moncho will form a political party or not. If people decide it, the Moncho will certainly go such a way,” Imran said.
Regarding the attack on Gonojagoron Moncho, Imran said we are analysing the matter, we are fixing the strategy that what kind of policies we will take.
“We are discussing seriously to come out of the current situation and mobilize our six-point demands,” he added.
Imran, however, said there were no relations with the attack about forming the political party, according to the Channel I report.
No political party is their target, they want to continue their movement with all the parties aligned with the liberation war, the report added.
The movement of Gonojagoron Moncho started at Shahbagh on February 5, 2013, following the sentence issued by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) for life imprisonment of Quader Mollah.
Later, people from all walks of life including various socio-cultural and political organisations took part in the Shahbagh demonstration.
On Saturday, a faction of the Gonojagoron Moncho “expelled” Imran H Sarker, the spokesperson for Moncho, declaring him “unwanted” in the platform.
Activists of the Shahbagh Gonojagoron Moncho had announced to continue their programme until the death sentence of war criminal Abdul Quader Molla and other war crimes convicted were executed.
Following their demand, the government amended the ICT act that finally hanged Abdul Quader Molla to death.
The platform continued their movement demanding the maximum penalty for a person who had been convicted.
On Saturday, the ruling party-backed Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jubo League allegedly attacked activists of Gonojagoron Moncho in the capital’s Shahbagh.
Following the incident, both Gonojagoron Moncho and Muktijoddha Sangsad Santan Command filed separate cases with Shahbagh police station early Friday.
