Bangladesh Chhatra League has said they will beg for forgiveness if accusations brought against them by the Gonojagoron Moncho can be proved.
“Otherwise, they (Moncho) will have to beg for forgiveness for filing false cases against Chhatra League,” its President Badiuzzaman Sohag said on Saturday.
Sohag was speaking at a press conference where he slammed the Gonojagoron Moncho and said it had now become separate from the people.
Moncho filed a case against Chhatra League activists Sheikh Aslam and Nasim Al Momin Rupok accusing them to have assaulted activists of the platform.
The Chhatra League president challenged Moncho against this. “If you can prove your claims, we will beg forgiveness before the entire nation.”
“We were with the Moncho in the beginning and jointly ran the platform. Imran was chosen as spokesperson because he was non-political.”
“We parted ways after two months because of our organisational activities,” he said. However, earlier Imran said Moncho parted with Chhatra League because of political ties.
“It is Chhatra League who had saved Gonojagoron Moncho from the fundamentalists in the past. It is we who came to the aid of Moncho always.”
“We have no difference with the spirit owned by the Gonojagoron Moncho,” Sohag said. “But now, the Moncho has been deserted by the people.”
Sohag alleged that the Moncho spent tons of money for a programme, gotten from anti-government bodies and NGOs, however failed to make those a success.
‘Arrest RU Shibir president in 24 hours’
Chhatra League has blamed the Islami Chhatra Shibir president of Rajshahi University for the death of one of its activists Rustom Ali Akonda.
Akonda was shot dead inside his dormitory room at Suhrawardy Hall in the campus on Friday.
“RU Shibir President Ashraful Alam Emon is responsible for the murder,” Sohag said. “We want him arrested in 24 hours and brought to book.”
“The Shibir president had been threatening Chhatra League activists in the Rajshahi campus for a long time,” central BCL President Sohag added.
Chhatra League is said to be observing protest programmes throughout the country in protest to the killing. Dhaka north and south units will organise a rally at Bangabandhu Avenue in the afternoon.
In response to queries regarding the recent death of a Chhatra League member in the hands of party mates in Bangladesh Agriculture University, Sohag said “the matter has been dealt with.”
“Chhatra League has ousted those responsible for the death. They will be brought to face tough actions.”
