Tangail 8: Rebel AL demand re-poll for 32 centres

Supporters of the rebel Awami League have blocked the Dhaka-Sakhipur road on Sunday demanding re-poll of 32 centres in Tangail 8 constituency.

They alleged rigging and demanded re-poll in 32 centres of the Sakhipur-Basail constituency. The road was blocked for about an hour, locals said.

Mahbubul Arifin Kamal, younger brother of rebel candidate Abul Malek, said Awami League supporters snatched ballots in several polling stations.

“We have complained to the authorities, but to no avail. We demand suspension of the poll-results in 32 polling stations and re-election in those centres.”

On Saturday, the by-election of Tangail 8 constituency was held after death of Shawkot Momen Shahjahan on January 20.
