BNP has alleged that supporters of the ruling party are threatening to kill its candidate if he does not withdraw from Lakshmipur Sadar upazila poll.
Running chairman and the BNP candidate for upcoming upazila poll Mahmudul Karim Dipu made the allegations at a press conference on Saturday.
Awami League supporters said to have damaged Masers Sagar Bricks, a brickfield owned by Dipu, using a bulldozer and fire service trucks, he alleged.
“I have incurred Tk1 crore in losses in the attack. Now, they are threatening to kill me if I do not step away from the upazila election,” he said.
The press conference was held alleging terrorism of the Awami League at the Lakshmipur Sadar residence of BNP’s student affairs Secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie.
“The Awami League is using the administration and they are planning to rig the upazila election,” Annie said.
“They have attacked our meetings and the police have detained our supporters,” he said, adding: “Supporters of BNP are being threatened with cases.”
The upazila election in Lakshmipur Sadar is scheduled to be held on March 31.
