The upazila unit BNP has called a day-long hartal for Sunday in the upazila, boycotting the election after vote casting started at three postponed centers.
BNP-backed chairman candidate Dewan Md Shahidullah and vice-chairman candidate Nurul Alam Razu made the announcement on Thursday morning.
Shahidullah claimed that he bagged highest vote in 27 out of 30 centers while The AL-backed candidate Sultan Mahmud was fourth in the election race.
The BNP candidate also alleged that the ruling party members were involved with vote rigging during March 15 election.
However, AL-backed candidate, also upazila AL President, Sultan Mahmud, said: “No terrorist activities have been taken place in the upazila during the poll.”
Earlier on March 15, the Election Commission postponed the voting in three centres out of 30 because of violence.
Later, the polls in those three postponed centres started on Thursday morning.
