Ivy: Godfathers will be ousted from Narayanganj

Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy yesterday said the godfathers of criminals would be ousted from Narayanganj by any means.

Hinting at the influential Osman family, the country’s first female mayor said: “We do not want bow down before any evil power. Citizens of Narayanganj will rise against torture, false cases, mysterious deaths and indifference of local administration.”

While addressing a book cover unveiling ceremony in Narayanganj, the mayor also said: “We will fight against the odds with our limited abilities.”

She also expressed hopes that Narayanganj would be changed to a safe place for children, no father would have to go door to door demanding justice to his son’s murder.

Noted filmmaker Morshedul Islam was also present at the programme. He said: “We are yet to get justice in Twoki murder case. If the government was truly a pro-liberation war party and if they want rule of law in the country, they should arrest the identified killers.”

He also expressed concerns that rate of children killing had increased in Narayanganj following the murder of Twoki, as the killers remained unpunished.
