The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has annulled the High Court order that approved anticipatory bail to five BNP leaders, including its acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, in some violence related cases.
The five-member top court bench headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain passed the order following pleas of the state.
The other leaders are—party Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas, Joint Secretary Amanullah Aman, Dhaka metropolitan unit Member Secretary Abdus Salam and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal’s Joint Secretary Obaidul Haq Nasir.
Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Md Sohrawardy pleaded for state while AJ Mohammad Ali and Sagir Hossain Leon represented the defence.
Meanwhile, the HC bench led by Justice Naima Haider gave anticipatory bail to BNP leaders Abbas, Aman and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy for six weeks in a murder case of last year.
