An Awami League activist, who received severe injuries in an attack allegedly carried out by BNP activists during the elections in Chaugachha upazila, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday morning.
The victim, Fazlur Rahman, 46, came under attack while a clash was underway between the ruling party and BNP activists at Debipur polling station.
Matiar Rahman, Officer in-Charge of Chaugachha police station, said the injured ruling party man was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment on Friday morning.
Claiming Fazlur to be an Awami League activist, SM Habib, newly elected chairman, said the body was being taken to Chaugachha.
Tension has been mounting in the area following death, said locals.
