Kader Siddiqui: Legal step against election commission

Krishak Sramik Janata League President Kader Siddiqui has decided to take legal step against the decision of the election commission that declared him ineligible to contest the Tangail 8 by-election.

The politician made the disclosure while addressing a press conference at his Tangail residence on Wednesday afternoon, hours after his nomination was rejected for “reasons involving loan default.”

He said: “I am going to take legal step against the election  commission that has broken the electoral rule by announcing me ineligible to contest in the by-poll.”

Earlier in the day, Abdul Kader Siddiqui has been declared ineligible to contest the Tangail 8 by-election for reasons involving loan default.

Sakhipur upazila Election Officer Habiba Akhtar ruled Kader Siddiqui illegal after ending verification of nomination papers on Wednesday morning.

Krishak Sramik Janata League President Kader Siddiqui had submitted his nomination for the Tangail 8 (Basail-Sakhipur) by-poll on February 23.

The constituency fell vacant after ruling Awami League lawmaker from the seat Shawkat Momen died in a heart attack on January 20 this year.

The Tangail 8 by-election is scheduled to take place on March 29. The last date for submitting nomination was Sunday.
