BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday said proper justice to the BDR mutiny case was not done.
Talking to reporters after placing wreaths at former president Ziaur Rahman’s grave yesterday, the veteran BNP leader made the comment.
He also termed the trial “farcical” and said: “We demand proper trial and fair investigation into BDR mutiny.
“Neither the masterminds behind the BDR killing were tried, nor they were implicated in the case,” Fakhrul alleged.
Meanwhile, at a press briefing in the afternoon at party’s Naya Paltan central office, Fakhrul claimed that the government disrespected the BDR carnage martyrs by inaugurating the opening ceremony of the Asia Cup yesterday.
He said: “Our leader [Khaleda Zia] urged the government not to inaugurate the programme on February 25.”
Earlier in the morning, party’s Standing Committee Member Mahbubur Rahman alleged that the government had done partial trial of the BDR mutiny case.
“This day is the black day in the history of the country. Partial trial has been done in the case. The masterminds of the incident are yet out of reach. It seems that the government has compromised with them,”he alleged.
Mahbub, also the former army chief, said the BNP would try the real culprits whenever they assume power.
A BNP delegation led by Fakhrul paid tribute to the martyred army officers at Banani graveyard yesterday.
A total of 74 people, including 57 army officials, were killed during the BDR mutiny on February 25-26, 2009 at the Pilkhana headquarters.
Later, the court awarded death penalty to 152 including a deputy assistant director of the then BDR and life term to 161 others for their role in the carnage.
