Choppers used to deliver polls equipment

Helicopters have been used since Tuesday to deliver necessary polls equipment to vulnerable centres ahead of four upazila polls in Bandarban.

District election officer sources said they have been using choppers for the delivery of empty ballot boxes, ballot papers and other election equipment to polling centres situated in remote areas of seven upazilas of the hilly district ahead of the upazila polls scheduled for February 27.

Presiding officers, polling officers and assistant presiding officers are also using helicopters to access these areas.

The polling centres are: Doliyanpararegi Non-government Primary School in Remakri union of Thanchi upazila: Remakri Government Primary School; Shakayong Para Non-government School; Boromodhu Bazar Non-government School; Tinduguping Para Government School under Tingu union; Jinna Para Non-government School; Noninpara Government Primary School under Reangcharai union of Rteangchari upazila; Chai Thoaihla Non-government School; Paknia Para government school in Ruma upazila; Nuntia Headman Para government Primary School; and Chilong Para Non-government School.

Since these centres are situated in remote areas, making them prone to violence, helicopters have been used to distribute polling equipment, according to election commission sources.

District Election Officer Abdul Latif Sheikh said, “We are using helicopters in the upazila election which is scheduled to be held on February 27 in order to deliver election equipment on time and for sending election officials.”
