Opposition candidates have boycotted the elections in all the three upazilas of Barisal division, alleging vote-rigging and obstruction to polls during elections.
Chairman candidates of BNP and rebel candidates of Awami League and BNP boycotted elections throughout Bakerganj, Lalmohan and Gournadi on Wednesday.
They complained that the law enforcement agencies were biased against the opposition supporters.
The poll-boycott came during the first phase of upazila election throughout 97 upazilas of the country.
Bakerganj: Chairman candidates Khalilur Rahman, from BNP, and Atiqur Rahman, a rebel candidate of the Awami League, boycotted poll around 2pm.
The call was made at a joint press conference held at the residence of local BNP member of parliament (MP) Abul Hossain Khan at the afternoon.
Lalmohan: Rebel candidate of the BNP, Aktaruzzaman, boycotted polls in the upazila of Bhola district. He claimed his agents were barred from the polling stations.
Gournadi: BNP and its rebel candidate boycotted election in the upazila of Barisal and called a half-day hartal to be enforced in the upazila on Thursday.
BNP-backed candidates Abul Hossain Mia, Zahir Sajjad, Taslima Begum and rebel candidate Lokman Hossain Khan alleged that their agents were thrown out from polling stations.
