BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said if the government does not hold elections immediately with the participation of all parties, it could not stay in power for a long time using the gun force.
The BNP spokesperson made the statement while addressing a discussion at National Press Club in the capital on Friday afternoon.
He said: “The whole world including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and European Union said January 5 election was not acceptable. They talked about inclusive elections immediately.
But the ministers are saying that they would stay in the office for five years. We want to say the government ... please hold an inclusive election immediately.”
He added: “History says none can stay in power for a long time using the gun force, this government also could not.”
