The 11th parliamentary election will be held within the 90-days after the expiration of the current government’s tenure on January 28, 2019.
Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam made this statement on Wednesday at the outset of the Awami League's central working committee (ALWC) meeting at Gana Bhaban with Prime Minister, and also Awami League president, Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
“No amendment will be brought in the constitution, yielding to any pressure,” Ashraf said, adding: “The next election will be held as per the constitution.”
Awami League abolished the caretaker government system in 2011 through passage of the 15th amendment of the constitution with its majority in Parliament.
BNP boycotted the 2013 election demanding the restoration of the caretaker government system.
