Communications Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said the government will take punitive action against the anarchists after making their list.
“The government is drawing up a list of those who have unleashed anarchy in the country and stern action will be taken against them accordingly,” he said.
The minister made the comments after visiting an under-construction Kazirbazar Bridge over the Surma River in the city.
Turning to upazila polls, Obaidul said all parties were taking part in the election spontaneously, and hoped that the election would be fair and free.
He said the government, after the 10th parliamentary polls, offered talks on the 11th general election in the form of snap election but the BNP did not respond to the proposal. “Now, there is no scope for any snap election.”
Replying to a query about the attack on general students at Rajshahi University allegedly by Chhatra League men and police, the minister said the present government had taken a tough stance against terrorism, militancy and anarchy.
“Action must be taken against criminals, no matter which party they belong to. Their list is being prepared,” he said.
Meanwhile, two groups of Chhatra League engaged in a fistfight at the Sylhet divisional workers’ meeting in the presence of the minister. Expressing resentment at the incident, the minister said the Awami League will soon start a cleaning operation.
