5 BNP leaders denied bail

A Dhaka court has rejected the bail petitions of five BNP top brass in two cases filed with Motijheel police station and two with Ramna police station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Md Zohirul Hoque passed the order on Thursday afternoon.

The five are BNP standing committee members Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah, Organising Secretary Fazlul Haq Milon and party leader Major (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed.

Of the leaders, Moudud, Rafiqul and MK Anwar are accused in a case for acts of vandalism, arson and for disrupting police work during the Hefazat-e-Islam violence in the city on May 5 last year.

Major Hafizuddin is accused in a crude bomb explosion case filed with Ramna police station and two cases filed with Motijheel police station over Hefazat violence while Milon was accused in a crude bomb explosion case with Ramna police station.
