Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has been reelected as the speaker of the 10th parliament.
The first session of the current parliament began on Wednesday, during its inaugural sitting the new House elected Shirin as the speaker.
On Tuesday, the Awami League Parliamentary Party nominated Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury as speaker of the 10th parliament.
She had earlier been elected as a Member of Parliament unopposed from Rangpur-6 constituency.
The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday published the gazette for the Rangpur-6 by-election declaring Awami League candidate Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury elected.
The seat was earlier vacated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
She was sworn in as member of the 10th parliament on Wednesday morning, administering her own oath at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 10:45am.
She was also the speaker for the 9th Parliament.
Dr Shirin Sharmin became the country’s first female Speaker on April 30, 2013, after then Speaker Abdul Hamid become Bangladesh’s 20th President following the death of country’s 19th President Zillur Rahman.
