JP (Manju) candidate wins Kurigram 4 poll

Jatiya Party (Manju) candidate Md Ruhul Amin has won from Kurigram 4 constituency.

According to unofficial results, Ruhul Amin bagged 32,607 votes while his nearest Awami League candidate Md Jakir Hossain got 24,939 votes in all 106 centres.

Assistant Returning Officer of Kurigram 4 Abdul Hannan confirmed the results to the Dhaka Tribune.

He said: “The average turnout was about 31%.”

The reelections in two postponed centres -- Roumari Keramotia Fazil Madrasah and Char Bandaber Government Primary School in Roumari upazila – ended at 4pm yesterday amid tight security.

The voting started at 8am and continued without any break.

Earlier, the commission wanted to hold the voting at the two centres on January 16 but failed to do so when the High Court issued a stay-order regarding the re-poll.

In the Kurigram 4 seat, Awami League candidate Jakir Hossain pleaded the Election Commission to hold a re-polling in some centres. JP candidate Ruhul Amin bagged 30,544 votes and Awami League candidate Jakir Hossain bagged 23,946 in the last poll.
