Former whip Wahab absent during PM’s visit to Malopara

Former MP and whip Sheikh Abdul Wahab was not present while the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited the violence-torn area of Malopara in Abaynogor upazila of Jessore district yesterday.

Local MPs of several constituencies including, Ranjit Kumar Ray, Kazi Nabil Ahmed and leaders of local AL were present during the visit.

Wahab was not present at the time of rally while the president of the district AL presided over the function.

Several leaders of Abhoynogoy upazila and Jessore district unit AL told the Dhaka Tribune that Abdul Wahab was not allowed in the law enforcement agencies meeting on the occasion of Premier’s visit.

The meeting arranged by the district administration was held in Abhoynogor upazila headquarters. Wahab was invited to the meeting.

Local AL leaders said Wahab went to the meeting venue but he was turned back.

Wahab, also the president of Abhoynogor upazila Awami League was accused of having encouraged attacks on Hindu minority communities on January 5, in the 10th parliamentary elections.

He was an independent candidate as AL did not nominate him.
