Jamaat-e-Islami Meherpur unit has called a half day hartal in the district today protesting the murder of its Assistant General Secretary Tariq Muhammad Saiful Islam.
Islam, 35, died on Monday in a gun fight with the members of the joint force at the Shwashan ghat area on the outskirt of the town.
The deceased’s wife and family members alleged that members of the law enforcement agencies murdered him in a pre-planned manner and coloured it as a “gun fight.”
Police arrested Tariq from Islami Bank area on Sunday afternoon in nine cases filed for vandalism during BNP-enforced hartal and blockade, Reazul Islam, officer-in-charge of the Sadar police station said.
