Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday said the government would complete its five-year tenure and it was working to this end.
Muhith said no foreign countries had put pressure on the government to hold an early election. He said this to journalists after a non-concession loan committee meeting at the finance ministry auditorium. “What is outside pressure? There is no pressure. We have invited the BNP to the negotiation table to settle the election issue,” he said.
About the resolution adopted in European Union parliament on Bangladesh he said the EU parliament stated that the election was internal matter of Bangladesh. Muhith asserted that the present government would complete its five years tenure. He, however, on January 4, a day before the parliamentary poll, said the new government would not stay in power for five years.
Talking to journalists after a visit to the under-construction bridge on River Surma in Sylhet, Muhith said it was foolish act of the BNP not to take part in the election.
