BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has alleged that the Awami League government has come to power through brute force.
She made the statement while addressing a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on Monday afternoon.
“People have not accepted the farcical election in January 5,” Khaleda further claimed.
She said: “The election in which people have not cast vote, the government for formed through the poll cannot be a government of the people.”
Khaleda also termed the government as a “disgraceful” government. She urged the ruling government to take initiatives towards a fresh poll.
Khaleda said: “The January 5 election has proven that a fair poll cannot be possible without a non-party government.
It is necessary to hold immediate dialogue for holding an acceptable election.”
Addressing the current government as “shameless,” Khaleda asked it to test its popularity by holding election under a non-party government.
“The government is conducting killing, enforce disappearance using police,” she alleged.
Khaleda said: “It [government] fears public, that’s why it had put me under house arrest two days prior to BNP’s ‘March for Democracy’ programme.”
The BNP chief arrived at the rally venue at 4:05pm.
This is the first of her campaign programmes throughout the country in a bid to mount public support behind the BNP-led 18-party alliance.
