A Dhaka court granted bail to Khaleda Zia’s adviser Abdul Auwal Mintoo and party Vice-Chairman Selima Rahman on Thursday afternoon.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Maruf Hossain passed bail to Mintoo while Mahbubur Rahman granted bail to Selima Rahman.
Earlier, police had sought a 10-day remand for Mintoo in a case filed with Motijheel police station for “obstructing police and creating panic during the Hefazat’s May 5 programme in Dhaka.”
After hearing the remand plea, the court set January 21 for hearing the petition.
Later, the court fixed January 16 for hearing the plea following a petition filed by the defence lawyers.
Mintoo’s lawyer Barrister Rafiqul Haque demanded the cancelation of the remand and appealed for bail.
He told the court that Mintoo had been away from the country from May 2 to May 13 for treatment.
Meanwhile, Selima Rahman has secured bail in a case filed with Shahbagh police station for setting off crude bombs in the capital’s Shahbagh.
