Khaleda: Rally at Suhrawardi to thank people

The BNP will hold a rally at the Suhrawardi Uddyan in the capital on January 20 to thank the people of Bangladesh for "boycotting January 5 polls."

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia announced fresh programmes during a press briefing at the Westin Hotel in the capital on Wednesday.

The party will stage demonstrations in all upazilas, districts and divisional levels across the country on January 29.

Khaleda and her party leaders will tour the country as part of their movement against the 'illegal' government, she informed the media.

The BNP chief briefed the media for the first time since the 10th parliamentary elections held on January 5 and the formation of the new government.

The party very recently retracted from agitation programmes such as hartals and blockades, with most of their top leaders facing imprisonment.

At least 20 lives were lost in the anti-polls violence sponsored by the BNP-led 18-party alliance during the elections which they had boycotted.
