Jatiya Party Chairman and newly elected Lawmaker HM Ershad sent a letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday, expressing his gratitude for having been granted the position of special envoy of the premier.
Prime Minister’s Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury told the Dhaka Tribune that the “Thank-You” note reached the Prime Minister’s Office in the afternoon.
Ershad congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her formation of the government for successive terms.
In his letter, Ershad thanked the premier for appointing him as her special envoy, a rank equivalent to a ministerial position.
The former military ruler also thanked the prime minister for allowing his party members to play the role of the opposition in the parliament apart from taking one full minister and two state ministers from his party.
Earlier on Sunday, Ershad was made special envoy to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. A gazette was published in this regard on Sunday evening after the cabinet of the 10th parliament was sworn into office. Although the Jatiya Party is now officially the opposition in the parliament, it will be led by the party’s primary Presidium Member Rawshan Ershad.
Ershad was “put” to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital since December after he voiced his desire to boycott the 10th parliamentary polls. He has been there since the elections.
However, he appeared for his swearing-in as a member of the 10th parliament at the office of Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Saturday.
