Prime Minister and the President of Awami League Sheikh Hasina decided to quit Rangpur 6 parliamentary constituency as she would take oath as a Member of the Parliament elected from Gopalganj 3 constituency.
The premier submitted a letter to the Election Commission yesterday informing them that she had left Rangpur 6 seat.
ABM Riazul Kabir Kauser, a member of a sub-committee of the Awami League election steering committee, submitted the letter to the commission in the evening with Sheikh Hasina's signature.
Sheikh Hasina is expected to take oath today alon with other MPs.
According to the Election Commission’s rules, if any elected candidate dies or leaves his or her seat, the seat falls vacant and a by-election must be held within 90 days as per the constitution.
