Cabinet Division ready to host cabinet’s oath

The Cabinet Division is all set to hold the oath-taking ceremony of the new government anytime and is now waiting for instructions from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan yesterday told the Dhaka Tribune that all preparations for the programme to swear in the new cabinet had been completed.

“We are now waiting for instructions from the government. We can arrange the programme on a short notice,” he said.

Citing the process of formation of a new government, the cabinet secretary said the parliament secretariat would host the oath-taking of the new MPs within three days of the publication of the gazette on the elected public representatives.

“The parliamentary party of the party that gets majority will elect the leader of parliament after the oath-taking and the party will form the government. Then the Prime Minister’s Office will instruct us to hold the swearing in of the new cabinet,” he added.

The president will conduct the ceremony at Bangabhaban.

Cabinet Division officials said it was expected that most members of the polls-time cabinet would retain their posts in the new government.

The PMO will inform the Cabinet Division about the names of the new cabinet members.

The officials said the files on the appointments of the new cabinet had been prepared.

The Cabinet Division has also prepared the list of guests for the programme.
