Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman HM Ershad would take oath as Member of Parliament (MP) on Thursday.
Rowshan Ershad, JaPa presidium member, made the disclosure on Wednesday evening while addressing reporters at a press conference at the parliament.
Replying to a query, Rowshan said: “Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad will take part in the swear-in ceremony on Thursday.”
Ershad, who is now under treatment at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka, is guiding us and we are doing everything in accordance with his directive,” She added.
Rawshan also told the media: “I will join the parliament as the Opposition Leader as Ershad was once the president of the country.”
Jatiya Party took part in the 10th parliamentary polls in order to continue the constitutional process and uphold the country’s democracy, Rowshan said.
The former first lady also supported mid-term elections through the discussion and consensus among all political parties.
Despite declaration to boycott the polls, Ershad won from Rangpur 3 constituency and lost Lalmonirhat 1 in Sunday’s ballot. Earlier, the EC had rejected his request to withdraw his candidacy from the two northern region constituencies.
On December 12, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members detained Jatiya Party chief and former president HM Ershad from his President Park residence in the capital’s Baridhara. Immediately after the detention the former president was taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) and till now he is staying there for treatment.
