Germany: Polls poor reflection of voters' will

The Federal Republic of Germany believes the 10th general election of Bangladesh to be an extremely poor reflection of the voters' will.

The country made the observation while issuing an official statement regarding the 10th general elections in Bangladesh.

The statement read: “The Federal government has noted with regret the circumstances surrounding the parliamentary elections in Bangladesh. These elections are an extremely poor reflection of the electorate’s will.”

Referring to the recent violent attacks on the Hindu minority community, it has called upon all political forces to refrain from any form of violence and intimidation, especially against religious minorities.

They also urged the Bangladesh government and all political parties to overcome their differences in the interest of the country.

The statement said: “The Bangladesh government and all political parties have to overcome their differences in the interest of the country and have to work together to bring about inclusive, peaceful and credible democratic elections.”

Condemning the ongoing violence in the country, the statement added: “The number of people killed or injured during the campaign and on the elections-day itself is appallingly high. We condemn the violence that surrounded the elections.”
