Independent candidate of Pabna 1 constituency Prof Abu Sayeed has rejected the polls result, bringing the charge of vote rigging against State Minister for Home Shamsul Hoque Tuku and his men and demanded re-election in the constituency.
Sayeed urged the election commission to arrange re-election in Pabna 1 constituency, and warned: “If the election commission does not arrange re-election, I will take legal action.”
From a press conference at his residence yesterday, Sayeed alleged that Tuku’s men forced his polling agents to leave the polling centres and cast fake votes, which is a contradiction to the prime minister’s pledge for an impartial election.
“Some cadres of Tuku have indiscriminately cast votes for him in 32 centres,” Sayeed claimed.
“I have submitted two complaint letters to the returning officer, demanding to stop voting in the most vulnerable centres on Sunday morning but the returning office are yet to take any step.”
