The main opposition BNP on Tuesday has extended its 48-hour countrywide hartal till 6pm Wednesday.
BNP Vice-Chairman Selima Rahman made the announcement of 12-hour extension at her Gulshan residence on Tuesday evening.
Earlier on Sunday, the main opposition BNP called a 48-hour nationwide hartal from Monday morning.
It also demanded for the rearrangement of the 10th general elections claiming that most of the people of the country have rejected the “farcical polls.”
While expressing its reaction over the casting of votes for the 10th general elections, BNP leader Dr M Osman Farrouk made the announcement on Sunday evening, immediately after the pollings end.
He said: "Apart from enforcing the indefinite blockade programme, we will enforce the 48-hour hartal from Monday morning.”
BNP and its key alliances are observing their non-stop agitation programmes across the country from last couple of months demanding restoration of the caretaker government system.
