The government was able to prevent violence in most places on the voting day, said Sajeeb Wajez Joy.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son made the statement in a Facebook post in the early hours of Monday.
The post reads: “The BNP-Jamaat have continued their attacks non-stop. They have set fire to several polling centers and innocent civilians.
“Fortunately, the Government was able to prevent violence in most places.”
At least 16 people including an Ansar man were killed in 10 districts in separate clashes with law enforcers during voting for the country’s 10th general election on Sunday.
The Prime Minister’s information and technology advisor Joy said approximately 10,000 domestic polling observers, several South Asian poll observers, 20 or so TV channels and innumerable newspapers have monitored these polls.
“No voting irregularities have been reported,” he added.
Joy thanked voters who came out to vote in spite of this [attacks]. According to media reports overall voter turnout was about 40%, noted the premiere’s son.
