At least 20 crude bombs were exploded by unidentified criminals in front of the main opposition BNP’s Nayapaltan office in the capital on Sunday evening, two hours after the casting of votes for the 10th general elections ended.
Quoting the witnesses, police said: “Some unidentified miscreants have exploded over 20 crude bombs in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan office around 6:15pm.”
In counter to the blasts, the on-duty police personnel fired some 50 gunshots constantly, said the witnesses.
Following the incidents, the entire area became free from pedestrians while local people ran into their residences after they panicked because of the sudden blasts and explosions.
However, none was reported injured in the explosions.
Fowzia Khanam, sub-inspector of Paltan police station, said: “Police managed to detain four persons from the spot suspecting their involvement with the blasts. They were taken to the police station for quizzing.”
Some 85 crude bombs were exploded in different parts of the capital throughout the day and at least 12 people were reported injured during the blasts.
