Resist polls, Tarique calls in video message

Unite and resist the government’s autocracy and its farcial polls at any cost, BNP Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman called out in a message to the nation.

The video message was sent from the United Kingdom on Saturday, a day ahead of the 10th parliamentary elections in the country.

“I call out, now is the time to forget differences, unite and join in the movement against the government. No more wait for orders.”

“The goal is one – resist the autocrat government and its farcical polls at any cost putting aside all differences,” he said.

BNP, who is out of Sunday’s national polls, have been demanding scrap to the January 5 polls schedule and demanding fresh ones under non-partisan government.

They have called out in vain to the government for holding a dialogue over fresh elections. However, now Tarique Rahman has asked supporters to drive on the aggressive mode in order for success of the opposition movement.

The BNP leader and son of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia said everyone, except those with Awami League, were now in support of the opposition.

“The people are now looking up to the BNP-led 18-party alliance for salvation from this political crisis. The success of this popular movement is evident.”

However, there was no indication as to whether Tarique Rahman would come to Bangladesh. "I am not with you in body at the moment for my illness. However, I always feel that I am with you,” he said to his supporters.

The leader echoed his mother into explaining the current situation of the country and alleged that the government was seeking to return Baksal.
