Six Awami League men, including the district unit secretary, were expelled from the party for contravening party decisions.
The decision was taken at a party meeting yesterday with central committee Organising Sectary BM Mojammel Haque in the chair.
The expelled leaders were Secretary of Sadar Upazila, Upazila Vice-Chairman JM Rashidul Alam, Joint Convener of Harinakundu upazila Afzal Hossain, Publicity Secretary Jibon Kumar, Member Azizur Rahman, President of Halidhani union Abdur Rashid and President of district Juba League Naser Alam Siddiquee Uzzal.
In a written statement, district unit Office Secretary Asaduzzaman Asad said the party men were expelled as they were working for rebel candidates in the upcoming national polls.
The decision has created dissatisfaction among the party men.
In the evening, a faction of the party brought out a protest rally against the decision.
