BNP clash with police in Gazipur

At least five people were said to have been injured when activists of BNP locked in clashes with law enforcers in Kaliakoir upazila, Gazipur on Tuesday afternoon.

BNP, led by their leader Mujibur Rahman, tried to bring out a procession from Kaliakoir bus stand area around 4pm, local police Sub Inspector Nazrul Islam said.

Police intervened the procession, he added.

Mujibur Rahman, municipality mayor and BNP's national executive committee member, alleged police attacked their peaceful rally. “Police charged batons and opened fire.”

“Five activists of BNP have been injured,” he added.

Kaliakoir police Officer-in-Charge Omar Faruk said police fired shots in the air to break the BNP gathering.
