The new government would be formed sometime in January, said Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam.
He said: “The new government will be formed in January anytime after the polls and it will run the country.”
The ruling party leader made the statement during a press briefing on Sunday afternoon.
Regarding the upcoming 10th general election, he said: “The government is making preparations to hold the polls as per the constitutional rule and the people both home and abroad expect the election to be held.”
He said, as a majority party Awami league has the legitimate right to amend the constitution as the people have given them with mandate.
Mentioning that there is no alternative to the January 5 election, Syed Ashraful slammed the “so called” civil society’s move that advised stopping the election as they comprise BNP leaders, revealing their true allegiances, adding that they didn’t invite any Awami League leaders to the programme.
He said: “So their motive is clear.”
