The leaders and activists of the BNP and the Jamaat-e-Islami are responsible for the unruliness that occurred within the Supreme Court premises , says Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam .
He blamed the opposition men during a press conference at party president Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondhi office in the evening.
The BNP-Jamaat men, disguised as Awami League men, launched the attacks on the pro-BNP lawyers who were barred from bringing out their procession from the Supreme Court premises in support of the BNP's Dhaka March programme.
“BNP leaders, including former army chief Lt General Mahbubur Rahman, former air chief Altaf Hossain, former education minister Osman Faruq who led the procession in the court premises, are not lawyers of the Supreme Court,” Ashraf said.
The AL leader blamed them for the anarchy within the Supreme Court premises, he told the media.
Police unleashed water-cannon on a protesting group of pro-BNP lawyers near Supreme Court premises on Sunday, ahead of BNP's Dhaka March programme.
About 100 lawyers of the Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Parishad tried to bring out a procession and march towards Nayapaltan sometime near 11:30am.
BNP chairperson's adviser Osman Faruk, party leader Sanaullah Mia, Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Parishad leader Quamrul Islam Sajal and lawyers of Dhaka Judge Court were at the Supreme Court premises.
Police intervened and used water cannons in an attempt to break the gathering.
But the lawyers were seen regrouping and chanting slogans in support of the Dhaka March programme.
Later, law enforcers locked the main gates of the Supreme Court and lobbed two sound grenades and a teargas shell to dispel the protestors.
The lawyers were under shelter inside the court premises. Law enforcers, the water cannon and an armoured vehicle were stationed outside.
But a group of unruly students managed to open the gates of the Supreme Court and chased the pro-BNP lawyers inside the court premises vandalising and torching vehicles.
