Junior Law Minister Quamrul Islam has called upon the Awami League to come down hard on the main opposition BNP during Dhaka March programme.
“We need to fend them off like we did in 1971,” he said at a meeting of Awami League high ups at Bangabandhu Avenue on Saturday morning.
The meeting was held just a day ahead of the BNP's Dhaka March programme, Sunday, near their Nayapaltan headquarters in Dhaka.
“We will resist them with sticks and continue to do so until the elections in January 5,” he said.
“Remember, tomorrow (Sunday) will not be the last. We will have to maintain our position until January 5,” Quamrul Islam told Awami League supporters.
BNP, who will not be participating the January 5 elections, has called out to their supporters countrywide to join in the Dhaka March with the national flag “defying all barriers.”
However, they were yet to get a permission for the gathering. Meanwhile, apparently the Awami League were geraring up to foil the programme.
