Chairman of the newest faction of the Jatiya Party Kazi Zafar Ahmed yesterday said Hussein Muhammad Ershad, the Jatiya Party chief tried to hit a six, but was caught in the deep.
He made the remark regarding Ershad’s arrest at a party meeting held at capital’s Gulshan on Friday afternoon.
Zafar said, “The matters involving his arrest are strange. He is saying that he is detained. But he is playing golf, running party affairs and promoting and expelling anyone he wishes. I think he is a master of playing dramas.”
“Ershad tried to hit a six, but was caught in the deep [Ershad’s drama was foiled],” said Zafar who is an expelled Jatiya Party Presidium member.
On November 28 former president Ershad expelled Kazi Zafar for making frequent statements against him “violating the party charter.”
Hours after being expelled, Kazi Zafar Ahmed expelled his party Chairman Ershad for “prestige” issues.
“I did not want to expel him but his contradictory statements and conflicting stances at different times compelled me to do so,” said Zafar.
Expressing solidarity with the opposition’s March for Democracy programme on December 29, Zafar said: “Today’s meeting is similar to Khaleda’s call for March for Democracy.”
Zafar-led faction of JaPa would join the march from in front of National Press Club, said leaders at the meeting.
Asked on possibilities of being held, Zafar said “I am not worried about being held.”
