Dipu Moni: No tolerance for violence

Any violence from main opposition BNP incited under the banner of “March towards Dhaka for Democracy” will not be tolerated.

Former foreign minister Dipu Moni issued the warning on Wednesday during a programme organised by local Awami League in her hometown of Chandpur.

She said: “The tenth parliament will be held on time and a fresh election will be called for if the BNP can refrain from violence and reach a consensus.”

She criticised the Dhaka march program called in by opposition chief Khaleda Zia for December 29.

“No one will come to her program,” she urged to the people.

Previously, during a similar programme of the Hefazaat’s, Khaleda urged Dhaka-dwellers to join them but none had responded to her call, she observed.

BNP activists are absent from the field. Now she (Khaleda) is only surrounded by Jamaat-Shibir men, she said, adding that Khaleda had mainly called Jamaat-Shibir activists to join the newly announced program.

The nation will not accept the war criminals’ marching with the national flag during the month of December, Dipu said.

Dipu Moni alleged that the opposition alliance is spending money towards committing acts of violence, including arson attacks and vandalism.

She slammed Khaleda over the issue surrounding Pakistan’s resolution on the Molla execution, saying: “Khaleda had no condemnation for Pakistan for adopting resolution in its parliament on the execution of war convict Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Molla.

Municipality mayor Nasiruddin Ahmed, District Awami League Joint Secretary Zahirul Islam, District Jubo League convener Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan attended the program as discussants.
