The top leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam were were in contradiction on whether their Motijheel Shapla Chattar rally, scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed or not.
Though its Dhaka unit said that the rally was postponed because authorities did not give permission, the core Chittagong unit said that is not true.
“Our preparations are complete, but the only thing on the way is the government's impediment,” Hefazat's Organising Secretary Azizul Haque Islamabadi said from Chittagong.
“We have not postponed our rally, we will hold it tomorrow if the government grants us permission now,” he said after a meeting of the Chittagong Hefazat unit.
The meeting took place after Hefazat chief Shah Ahmad Shafi and his deputy Junaid Babunagarai were shelved inside the Hathazari madrassa after attempt to head for Dhaka ahead of the rally.
However, it remained unclear what was the concrete decision.
Chittagong-based Hefazat claims itself to be a non-political Islam-based organisation.
