Chhatra Sangram Parishad demands ban on Jamaat-Shibir

Activists of Bangladesh Chhatra Sangram Parishad brought out a procession yesterday morning, protesting Jamaat-Shibir violence and the bomb attack on a Ganajagaran Mancha organiser Bappaditya Basu.

The procession which ended in front of the National Press Club was brought out around 11am from Dhaka University Madhur Canteen, following different streets of the campus. The platform also staged a rally in front of the club and demanded a ban on Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir. They also vowed to protest and resist the organisation’s violent activities across the country.

Speaking at the rally, Chhatra Sangram Parishad Coordinator, and Chhatra League president, Bodiuzzaman Shohag said: “Jamaat-Shibir men are continuing their heinous acts across the country with the help of BNP and its leader, they are responsible for all the recent killings.” He also alleged that Shibir activists had attacked Chhatra Maitri President Bappaditya Basu on the orders of BNP chief Khaleda Zia.

Shohag also criticised the BNP-led 18-party alliance for calling frequent blockades and had compared the opposition’s activity with that of Taliban.

Siddique Nazmul Alam, Chhatra League general secretary, said: “BNP and its ally Jamat-Shibir are attacking our progressive minded students, but we did not give any stern response because we do not violate the law.” “But if the evil forces continue their attacks, we as well as the general people will never remain silent and will take appropriate revenge,” Nazmul added.
