Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina blamed the opposition party BNP for the one-side elections
The premier came up with the allegation while addressing a discussion of Awami League in the Krishibid Institution auditorium on Saturday marking the victory day, reports BSS.
“We thought the opposition party was coming to the election. As many as 154 candidates were not going to have the chance to get elected uncontested,if the opposition party was participating in the polls,” the PM said adding: "It is not our fault; it is a blunder of the opposition."
Many candidates got elected unchecked due to the lack of other competitors taking part at the election, she said.
On the accord that BNP ends their connections with war criminals and Jamaat, a party that is acknowledged to be unfit to competein the election by the apex court of the country. Sheikh Hasina reiterated that her administration is prepared to dissolve the 10th parliament to hold the next Jatiya Sangsad elections.
"But the 10th parliamentary polls would, Inshallah, be held under the constitutional framework to protect the voting rights of the people," the PM added.
Advising the people of the country to stand firm in the face of evil with the spirit of the war of liberation, Sheikh Hasina said the evil forces are unleashing terrorism and killing people, they are burning people and their homes.
Awami League Presidium member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury was in the chair, while others present in the discussion were party's advisory council members Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed and Suranjit Sengupta, general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, among others.
In memory of Syeda ZohraTajuddin, the party's senior presidium member who passed away on December 20, the beginning of the meeting observed a minute's silence.
