CEC: Election on time

Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad yesterday said there was no scope to stop the January 5 elections as already 154 aspirants were set to be elected uncontested.

“The 10th parliamentary election will be held as per the electoral laws,” he told reporters around 11pm the EC Secretariat after holding four informal meetings since morning.

“We will inform the designated printing press tomorrow [today] to print the ballot papers for holding election to rest of the constituencies,” he added.

About delay in publishing the list of lone candidates, he said: “It is a legal process. We have compiled the list of lone candidates after getting information though internet, telephone and email.”
