Volte-face Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad now says he may participate in an election under a caretaker government.
The statement was made out of the blue at his Baridhara residence on Monday after his latest proposal to defer the January 5 elections.
“For the sake of a fair election, I may participate even under a caretaker system,” he said.
Main opposition BNP has been waging movement for holding elections under a caretaker government.
The Jatiya Party had joined the interim cabinet that was formed to oversee the upcoming polls.
Six ministers of the 29-member polls-time cabinet are from Jatiya Party who took oaths on November 21.
However, the Jatiya Party ministers of the polls-time cabinet have sent their resignation letters to the prime minister by courier on Sunday [December 8].
On December 3, HM Ershad declared his party would not participate in the upcoming elections without participations of all political parties.
